Brenna L.D. Shafizadeh and Sarah Becker
Brenna Shafizadeh was born in Spokane, Washington. While studying at the University of Washington in Seattle, she was hoodwinked by an out-of-state student from California into believing that they were kindred spirits and both huge Bowie fans. Jahan eventually admitted to the hoax. They married anyway and their first experiment with parenting came three days later when they adopted their cat, Leizle, who is now twelve years old. They moved to the Bay Area eight years ago (a homecoming for Jahan). Their human children, Cyrus and Isabella, were both born in Walnut Creek and are now six and four, respectively. Brenna enjoys event planning, quilting, gardening, and Pilates. Jahan enjoys working at ebay, gardening, cooking, and engineering neat stuff around the house (most recently a mister system outside). Cyrus loves Legos. Isabella loves the color pink. Leizle loves chicken.
Sarah Becker moved to the San Francisco bay area in 2003 from San Diego, California when she was six months pregnant with her son. She and her husband Rick chose to live in Walnut Creek because of the easy access to BART and the sunny skies-no fog please! Living in a new city, separated from friends and family she thankfully found the Mt. Diablo Mother's Club. She made friends with other moms with newborns and was able to adjust to the routine of stay at home mom. Having worked in San Diego for small businesses managing their finances and then as a high school math teacher, staying at home was a new experience. But Sarah soon found that she couldn't just "stay home" all day long-too boring. That's when she starting finding things for herself to do around town and further afield for the whole family on weekends. Exploring the bay area was lots of fun, from strolling through downtown Walnut Creek to Union Square in San Francisco to discovering all the wonderful museums and family attractions that the area has to offer. Sarah met Brenna through the mom's club. Once they started talking about the fun things they liked to do, and then how they could share that information with new moms joining the club, the idea of a book was born. Sarah, Rick and their son now live in Concord, California and really do go to all the places in the book-look for their pictures.
